1,030 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Match sticks and Gasoline
Location: Jupiter Shipyard -- USS Columbia
Timeline: 0900hrs

On:

The system checks were completed. The shipyard crews had disembarked, the last of the technicians had left hours earlier, the cargo and supplies had been loaded, the new crew were aboard, the last of the shuttles were aboard, the new reconnaissance fighters were stored in the hangar, the replacement staff had arrived, others including the Captain would be joining them at Starbase five. Admiral Wallace had one final duty to perform before he left, as the senior staff arrived he looked back too them, "Commander Jorel Torin, is the crew ready?"

Jorel got up from the XO seat on the Bridge as he was reading over the last few reports coming in. He finally looked up at the Admiral and said, "Final system checks have been completed and it looks like the ship is ready to get underway. Ops? Has the dock master signaled we were ready for departure?"

The Ensign at Ops looked over everything and said, "Yes, sir. It looks like we've been cleared to head out of spacedock on impulse. Cleared for system warp when we were cleared of dock."

Jorel smiled as he said to Wallace and said, "Besides heading out, we are ready to go it looks like. Anything else before we head out?"

"Yes..." The Admirals' scarred face showing the crooked smile "this group has done the extraordinary on a few occasions, keep that up since Starfleet is built on the extraordinary." The Admiral continued "Captain Elliot is waiting for you on Starbase five along with your next mission."

Johanna was at her science station. She had spent the time reading up on some of the phenomena the ship had encounter during its last mission. As well as keeping herself in top physical condition. She was ready to start a new mission.

Stepping on to the bridge for the first time Mario looked around seeing a few familiar faces including one in particular, "Admiral Wallace it's good to see you again sir."

The Admiral took a couple of short strides over too meet with the pilot, "Welcome Back Lt Pranjic, How was the flight in?"

"Good sir...I'm just here to report in to Commander Torrin, we've taken possession of Six new Recon fighters and the supporting assets and personnel, we're ready to go sir."

"Sounds like we've got a good recon fighter squad. How quickly do you think you could deploy in a pinch?" Torin asked Lt. Pranjic.

Mario turned too the XO, "The Captain liked to keep two fighters on standby twenty-four seven. and since we only have four fighters for now I've got the flight crews on three shift rotation."

Entering the Bridge on the opposite side to the conversation, Hobb threw a salute in the Admiral's direction, then headed to the Engineering Console. He pulled up his preferred layout, re-arranging the dedicated Engineering feed into something more pleasant to his eye. His tongue clicked in satisfaction as he saw that the feeds were coming back in the nominal range.

Ship was ready to launch.

As was Hobb. The extended shoreleave had done him good. Hiking through the Himalayas had returned him lean and ready for action, not to mention the more distinguished, weather-beaten look he now sported.

"Okay, awesome Lieutenant Pranjic. I'm sure that the Captain would agree when we pick him up that if you'd like a larger crew, since it's 24/7, we can see about getting you some more to help out with shift rotations and all that jazz," Torin replied, offering up a small smile.

Torin looked to Hobb and said, "Welcome back from shore leave, Hobb. How was it?"

'Relaxing,' Hobb drawled with a smile. 'Just long enough to get bored as well - eager to get out there now, Sir.'

"Then I leave things in your hands for now Commander, Captain Elliot is I'm certain eager to get back too work." The Admiral said as he made his way too the turbolift.

"Thank you, Admiral. Helm, prepare to get underway. Ops, can you reach out to the Dockmaster and see if we've got clearance to head out?" Torin asked the ops and helm officers on duty.

The Helmsmen was a young Betazoid man who looked over his console as he input some commands, waiting for Ops to get confirmation for everything.

The Ops officer was a Bajoran female and she hailed the Quartermaster for us. Within moments, she looked at Commander Torin and said, "Looks like we are clear and free from the dockyards. We're able to make way under one quarter impulse power."

That gave the young man at the Helm everything that he needed. He said, "One quarter impulse. Aye." The ship started to glide under way as the stars start to fly by.

Torin looked at the Helmsmen and said, "Once we're clear of the system and we're able to warp, lets have it and go to pick up our Captain. Warp 5 once we're clear."

"Warp speed should be available in approximately 10 minutes, sir. Then, a short ride over to Captain Elliott," he said. Those ten minutes, for Jorel, felt like an eternity. But, eventually, the ship made that normal jerk to warp speed from impulse. The helmsmen said, "Looks like warp is a go and we are cruising along at warp 5."

"ETA on the time of arrival?" Torin asked the helmsmen.

"Starbase five is ten hours away sir at current speed." The Helmsman said.

"Alright, I'm going to head to the ready room. Let me know if anything changes," Torin said as he got up and headed towards the Ready Room. The doors parted for him, since he was the acting CO.

The doors closed behind him as he looked around. "Wow.....really need to get him an interior decorator or something for this ready room. Too......Starfleet drab," Jorel said as he walked over to the replicator and ordered a drink.

==Epilogue===

Captains log Stardate 78330.48

The Columbia is just over two hours away, I'm both excited and hesitant about the future with the new USS Columbia, this will be the first time I've had a family aboard, my family, both the crew and my wife and child.
